What You Need to Know

• How can I find an agent or broker?

  Chances are you already have insurance for your car or other property. If so, it’s likely that your current agent or broker can help you apply for a policy through the FAIR Plan. If you don’t have an agent, search for one near you. You may also request to have a broker contact you here.

• Why do I need an agent or broker?

  Agents and brokers have to be licensed in California to sell insurance and can offer you advice regarding the amount and type of coverage that’s best for you.

• Will I have to pay a broker?

  No, agents and brokers are prohibited by law from charging any type of fee to assist you with a FAIR Plan policy.

• If I use a broker or agent, will my policy cost more?

  No, the policy premium is the same with or without a broker or agent.

• Will I need any additional insurance?

  If you purchase a FAIR Plan policy, ask your agent or broker about a Difference in Conditions policy to supplement your FAIR Plan coverage.
